Bobbin's Nest Studio

In search for a new hobby, I decided to take a class (with my sister and friend) at Bobbin’s Nest.  This place is super cute.  I once described it as Anthropologie meets Gilmore Girls.  They have really cool and modern fabric, and a huge selection of yarn and other crafty things.  They even have a sewing salon, where you can pay a flat rate fee to sew all day if you don’t have a sewing machine at home.  The sewing salon is also where they hold their classes.  My class was Sewing 101, where we learned to sew a simple pillow (post on that may be coming soon…still deciding if I want to post since I messed up on a step or two…hey, i’m still learning!).  They offer a few classes every month such as: sewing, crochet, knitting, etc.

Anyways, here are some pics I grabbed from their flickr.  So cute!

CB2 Eye Candy

I love CB2, enough said.

When we picked up our pendant lamp, we took a few pics of things that inspired us.

CB2's Eden Pendant Lamp

I wish I had a before picture…but I don’t.  My brother and I decided to change up the lighting fixture in the kitchen dining room.  We don’t really use that room to eat, so we decided to make that space a fun little sun room/office/hang-out space/still unsure exactly what it might be…but all we knew was that we wanted the light fixture to be high enough that we could walk underneath it.

I knew instantly what light fixture we should install, the CB2 Eden Pendant Lamp.  So simple, clean and inexpensive.

Will keep you updated as to what we decide to do with the space!  It’s all about using your rooms the way you want to use them and what fits your lifestyle, even if that means transforming your kitchen dining room into an office (or something else!).

Golden Doodle

In just about a month, we will be expanding our family and welcoming home a puppy!!!

We have yet to pick out a pup from it’s litter…but here are just a few pics of how adorable the pups from the litter are:

Don’t they just warm your heart?!

We bought a few necessities for our little pup, including a travel kennel in which we will use to crate train our pup.  I did do a little snooping around on the internet on cool pet homes and I’m kinda loving these DenHaus pet homes.  They are super out of our budget…but I think they are a cool little home for a dog, and not an eye sore.  I also like the functionality of it.

What do you think?

Packages in mail = happiness!

We got a package in the mail from Nate’s MomMom (Grandma)…and look what we got!

A hand knitted (or crocheted? Honestly, I’m still trying to figure out the difference…I know it’s probably a huge difference, but I’m un-educated and need to be schooled!) throw!

The pictures really do not do it justice.  I can’t even imagine the time and energy put into making this beautiful throw!  It really inspires me to take up knitting and/or crocheting.  I just really love the colors too, and it’s a perfect accent to our brown couch.  It is also reminiscent of rainbow sherbet, and would make a playful addition to a little girl’s room, or even nursery.   I feel like home made gifts are so rare these days, and think that something like this should and will be passed down in our family.  But I wonder, how do you wash this?  Can you even wash it?  I will have to do some research.

Anyhow, when I opened up the package, I immediately thought that this throw was reminiscent of Missoni’s designs.

What is your favorite home-made gift you have received?

Coco Avant Chanel

Today I watched the movie, Coco before Chanel (great movie, by the way!) and realized that what makes me happy is surrounding myself with beautiful things!

Coco Chanel was so ahead of her time.  She went against what everyone thought was beautiful, and changed the way women dress.  I really admire her simplicity, class and elegance.

No one could rock the black and white like she could, and it got me thinking of decorating your home in black and white.

Eric's mantel

So earlier I had posts on my brother’s garden…well I’d like to now introduce you to his mantel.  Doesn’t the art piece above look so simple and chic?!  Looks like it could have come from Z Gallerie if I don’t say so myself.  Well, the truth behind it, is that it is actually gift wrapping paper cut to a square and framed!  What a neat idea, right?!  Not to mention, inexpensive.  The elephant came from his travels to Thailand (our family has a thing for collecting elephants wherever we go).  I also like the bright colors of the books displayed.  The brown wooden boxes are board games.  And those black little funky shape thingees?  Well, those are the end parts of a curtain rod from IKEA.  So, in short, that’s Eric’s mantel using things from around the house to style it up to compliment the modern minimalistic vibe of the house.
